Applying for Membership

New members welcome - Apply Now

For over 140 years, The Club has brought like-minded people together, keen to meet and share their views, goals and aspirations over food and drink, in comfortable, familiar surroundings.

The Club is one of Adelaide’s most prestigious private clubs with a military heritage – welcoming members from around the globe, all walks of life and from both military and non-military backgrounds. Importantly service with the Australian Defence Force is not a requirement for membership.

Benefits of Membership

There are many benefits to membership and a myriad of ways to make the most of the Club. Enjoy exquisite food in the Colonel Downes Dining Room, relax with a drink in the Member's Bar and Lounge, or join in one of the many events, talks or lectures. Perhaps hold a business conference or a social gathering in one of our elegant private rooms and take advantage of the competitively priced accommodation and private parking.

Members of the Club are able to enjoy reciprocal arrangements with over 100 carefully selected clubs around the globe, so that when travelling on business or pleasure, a warm welcome and quality service can always be assured. Many of these clubs are national institutions within their own countries, providing an exclusive experience for all their visitors and members.

Seeking Membership

We welcome applications from private individuals and corporate bodies, who are looking for a central Adelaide home that can cater for their business, leisure and social needs. Combining tradition with comfortable amenities, The Club offers opportunities to meet fellow Members and friends, organise professional meetings in a secure environment at a prestigious, central Adelaide address, or simply gather loved ones for a relaxed evening or private event.

Application Process

Ladies and gentlemen wishing to join the Club are asked to complete an Application Form and arrange for existing members of the Club to sign the Application Form as their proposer and seconder.

Don’t know an existing Club member?

A person who does not know any existing member to propose them is still welcome to submit an Application Form. The Chair of the Membership and Marketing Committee will contact them to discuss their application and arrange for it to be considered by the Committee.

What happens next?

Completed applications for membership are forwarded to the Club’s Membership and Marketing Committee where they are tabled for consideration and to the Board for approval. The Committee and Board meet once a month and when applications for membership have been endorsed the full name, age, occupation, and suburb of the applicants will be listed on the Club’s notice board and in the Club’s newsletter for consideration from existing members. After 14 days the applicants will be subject to election for membership to the Club.
