About the event

Roger of the Raj (ROTR) is a title based on a Michael Palin ‘Ripping Yarns’ parody of the British Raj in India. It was a vehicle to rejuvenate the Club tradition of ‘Curry Tiffin’; a curry lunch that was a feature of many British and Commonwealth Officers Messes for years. The passage of time and a drift in our military experience had eroded our collective recollection and understanding of what it was all about.

We took Tiffin from Lunch to Dinner and ROTR has become a very popular celebration of Indian food and culture. It’s also a chance to dress up with a huge range of options. At previous events have covered off on history, language and even the modern day phenomena of Mumbai’s ‘Dabba Wallahs’.

Guest speaker Dr Rajeev Kamineni, who has produced 14 movies, will speak on "The Indian Movie Industry" and Mr Gurkirat Singh will teach us to construct a turban. Your are encouraged to bring turban material! The food will be memorable, the evening informative and fun. Over the last couple years this event has been widely popular, so we encourage members to book in early to avoid missing out. Canapes, soup, buffet main course of assorted curries, dessert, Club wines, beer, and soft drinks are included.
