Lecture and Lunch

In May 1942, the Imperial Japanese Navy was intent on sending a Marine Landing force to storm Port Moresby by sea. That they didn't succeed was thanks entirely to a battle fought from 4-8 May 1942, out of sight of land and indeed largely out of sight of the combatant ships themselves. In the battle that re-defined naval warfare, particularly in the vastness of the Pacific, rival fleets did not sight the enemy. However their aircraft did. As is so often the case the Fortunes of War were not entirely predictable. Lt Ron Read RANR will explain the sequence of events and what the outcomes meant for Japan the USA and Australia.
