Trustees of the Simpson Trophy Trust, cousins Antony and Nick Simpson will be present to formalise the loan of the Simpson Trophy ‘high gun’ individual Perpetual Trophy; the rifle that once belonged to Alfred M. Simpson, MLC when he was a soldier in ‘The Adelaide Rifles’. It adorns the medal room wall.
They will also present medallions for the 2023 winning team Members, to the Commanding Officer of 7RAR, LTCOL Levon Lambert, for subsequent award to the recipients at the Battalion’s final Ball in October.
The Simpson Trophy itself, a stunning piece of Victorian silverware, and contested annually since 1890, will be on display, courtesy of the Trustees and the Army Museum of South Australia (AMOSA).
Mr David Whelan will similarly formalise the loan of a rare medal set, awarded to Lieutenant Bert Stewart, DCM.
Also to hand will be the King’s Cypher, presented by Mr Michael van Dissell.
Political identity Nicolle Flint will outline a project being raised to re-inter the remains of an Australian VC winner, Sergeant Sam Pearse, killed in the North Russia campaign of 1919.
All Club members are invited to attend at no charge. Bar snacks provided. After the event, members are encouraged to join Friday Night Drinks in the Club Bar and to continue the conversation by staying for dinner. The Club Menu is available at members own expense.
To give an idea of numbers for catering purposes, please RSVP by 20 August 2024.
