About the event
The musical began as a rock opera concept album released in 1976. Its success led to productions in London in 1978, winning the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical, and on Broadway a year later, where it was the first British musical to receive the Tony Award for the best musical. Evita brings to life the rags-to-riches rise of Eva Peron, the First Lady of Argentina. Set between 1934 and 1952 it follows Eva Duarte on her journey from poor illegitimate child to ambitious actress to the most powerful woman in Latin America, before her death from cancer at age 33.
The talented Evita performers are supported by a hard-working ensemble comprising the men, women and children of Argentina. Directed by Gordon Combes with musical direction by Jillian Gulliver, and choreography by Sarah Williams, this production will be a fantastic night out celebrating Argentina’s answer to Princess Di!
