Film: Tea with Mussolini

We are starting off our Movie Night this year, with a lighter, comedy drama, “Tea with Mussolini” , set in the 1930s and through the war. It is packed full of British actress greats like Dame Maggie Smith, Judy Dench, and Joan Plowright. Also American actresses, Lily Tomlin and Cher (my personal favourite) It is based on the autobiography of the film director Franco Zeffirelli, who directed and co-wrote it. The film tells of a boy named Luca, born out of wedlock to a clothing manufacturer in Florence. His mother is dead, and his best friend is an old expatriate Brit named Mary (Joan Plowright), who has been hired to turn him into a perfect English gentleman.
