Movie Night & Dinner -  Thursday, 13th August The Battle of The River Plate The Battle to the River Plate was fought in the South Atlantic in 1939 and was the first British naval Battle of World War 2. The German Heavy cruiser Admiral Graf Spee had sunk several merchant ships in the Indian Ocean and South Atlantic Ocean before meeting the British Force on 13^th December 1939. This 1956 technicolour film starring John Gregson, Antony Quale and Peter Finch, follows the story of this battle and the sinking of the Graf Spee.
