Emboldened by the weak global reaction to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2014, Putin ordered a much bigger one in February of 2022, apparently as a re-imagined first stage of his vision of a re-born Russian Empire. It clearly hasn’t gone to plan.


The implacable resistance and resilience that Ukraine society and its military forces have demonstrated has been breathtaking. Over the past three years they have blunted relentless Russian assaults and exacted an astronomical toll on Russian personnel and equipment. But it has come at a fearsome cost to Ukraine.


Subsequent events and technological innovation have changed warfare forever, as defined by one word: ‘Drones’.
