H3 Movie Night

Marking the 80th Anniversary of an event that changed the course of history. Six months after Pearl Harbour, the Japanese onslaught in the Pacific seemed unstoppable. In May, the Battle of the Coral Sea had resulted in a tactical victory for the Imperial Japanese Navy but in blocking its seaborne attack on Port Moresby, the Allies had gained a critical strategic win.

Just a month later, the most important naval battle of the War played out near the remote island of Midway. As at Coral Sea, combatant ships did not sight each other; aircraft determined the outcome.

Not to be confused with the more recent (2019) movie version, the 1976 ‘analog’ original version relied on an all-star cast, and a superb blend of original and re-enacted footage to deliver an immersive and accurate account of the Battle that stopped the Japanese maritime advance in the Pacific, 80 years ago this month.
